Food Truths

“Date Night” during COVID

I absolutely love my career choice as a health coach and personal trainer. Just because I love what I do, it doesn’t mean my job is “easy.” The clients I work with for a long amount of time (over 6 months) are extremely successful within their health journeys. It brings me nothing but joy to see my clients become more comfortable in their skin as they begin to reach their personal goals. So what could possibly be hard about what I do? It is working with a person who thinks they are ready to make life changes but once they realize true lifestyle change is one of the hardest things they will EVER do….they quit.

I am the person who has to explain that the 1-2 cheat meals a week can stall your weight loss progression. I am the person who has to explain cutting your calories ALL the way down to near starving may allow you to see initial weight loss in the beginning but will most likely cause a binging downward spiral in the near future. I am the one who shows people the reality of the minimal quality food they are consuming and that they are truly consuming more calories than they believe they are. Out of 5 people I work with the reality is on 1-2 of those people are truly ready for change. The other people will quit within a month.

A consistent lifestyle change has been one of the most eye opening experiences of my life. Properly fueling your body in a world where junk food is worshiped is like fighting the Devil everyday. There is not one day where a commercial doesn’t play of some tempting piece of junk or you aren’t surrounded by bad food choices (think Sunday dinners, get togethers or even going to the movies!)

Yesterday my boss asked me if I wanted one of “the most fantastic donuts in town!” I had to pass. Tonight I went to a private showing with a group of friends and had to say no to extra buttered popcorn. Friday morning a friend of mine dropped off select hand made candies. If I were to indulge in every temptation, gift and foods in every situation I would be miserable. I would be extremely overweight and depressed by my size. This is my reality. I personally do not like being extremely heavy.

People who come to me requesting my help think my fixes are quick and easy. Often times when they realize there is A LOT of work and sacrifice Involved, the person will quit.

I love my career path. I am not saying my job is easy but it can be EXTREMELY satisfying when a client of mine reaches their goal. The other stressful parts are just part of the package!
