What is the difference between low carb and Keto?

It is important to understand that “low carb” IS Keto with a slightly higher carbohydrate consumption. Low carb lifestyles are not low enough in carbohydrates to keep your body in Ketosis. My body enters ketosis if I eat less than 50g of carbohydrates a day. Therefore if I eat 55g of carbohydrates a day, my body will no longer be in Ketosis however I am still eating Low Carb. A decent guideline for low carbohydrate consumption is

  • less than 150ish grams of carbohydrate consumption for weight maintenance or frequent high-intensity exercises
  • 50-100ish grams of carbohydrate consumption for steady weight loss (or for some weight maintenance).
  • Under 50 grams of carbohydrate consumption for quick weight loss. Key here- eat plenty of lower carbohydrate vegetables/leafy greens and limit fruit intake to low glycemic index berries.
