Reach for the Moon 🌙

Norman Vincent Peale has an infamous quote which says, “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” I absolutely love this quote because it reminds to dream big. Every since I was a small child, there are multiple stories about me being a big thinker. A person who goes big or doesn’t go at all. A person who has know since birth that I wouldn’t settle and I would not take “no” for an answer. I would like to think I am a visionary. When my mother and I decided to start our non-profit, Obesity Awareness IN Action, I immediately knew I wanted a national program.

Talking about starting a non-profit and actually starting a non-profit are two different things. Over the 2 years we have been working on getting it approved to be a 501c3 (hello pandemic! You increased our filing wait times drastically!), to having a starting time frame (January 1, 2022) until now, it has been one huge frustration and disappointment after another. It seemed impossible to find a single person willing to financially back us and we literally couldn’t GIVE items away for participation. I was told over and over that we need a famous person, and we need a program, and we need numerical statistical proof on how our non-profit was making an impact prior to applying for grants, which is such a catch 22 because we need money to hire someone famous or to start programming which will churn out statistical data. Individuals were mean, rude, slammed the door on my face and were very non-supportive. I couldn’t get anyone to help in any way possible. There were many, many, many nights I would cry myself to sleep out of frustration and MANY times I wanted to quit. After spending THOUSANDS of dollars to get OAA up and running, quitting didn’t seem like an option. Then it would be throwing away so much Money, that I couldn’t look myself in the mirror any longer. After out last event, I asked The Universe for a clear sign. If I were on the right path, to please give me a sign that would be ridiculously undeniable. I would give the Universe until Dec 31st, 2022 to give me a sign to keep going, otherwise I would dismantle this non-profit. The amount of work I was putting in was NO WHERE NEAR the rewards needed to call our non-profit a sustainable project.

I believe in Universal responses. If you put out energy for anything, you WILL get an answer. Welp. The Universe answered very quickly and clearly. The next week, I received an email explaining our Non-profit was up for a very prestigious award through the Loveland Chamber of Commerce. October 28th, 2022 we win the award.

Best of The West Award Ceremony

I knew the moment I heard our Non-profit’s name called, we were destined to plow through the adversities and become great. This was the undeniable sign I had asked for. We spent 2 years shooting for the moon. OAA landed amongst the stars 🌟. 10 months after being operable, we landed this unbelievable award. This was the Universes sign. This was it!

I can not control other people’s treatment or thoughts towards me nor the organization. All I can do is keep reaching for the moon. Positivity and light. Love, respect, due diligence and preserverence. Be well. Don’t let anyone tell you what you are capable of or demean you to have you believe you are unworthy. Remember, you are a star.
